I am in Northern California. Eames/Mid Century furniture shows up a lot in my area ..especially because most people who are thrifting are looking for clothes and shoes. I buy stuff like this , repair or spruce them up if needed then flip them at my local monthly antique show. I am selling each one for $65 this weekend. I have found the same chair 2 other times and sold the pair for $100.

Sally Ann in Saugus is all tapped out. The whole operation has changed with new management and it's not really for the better. The word is is that trucks used to come directly from their pick-up's and head for the furniture barn. Now they are brought in back to the warehouse where they are sifting and sorting the stuff out. The things that are worth $$, mostly mid-century modern, and holding them for certain dealers (like the guy from Swampscott who shows up every "truck day". Or the other dealer from Essex, for whom they take things down from the space over the back office or from out back), who get first pick. I was once asked by an employee if I'd like him to see if there was something specific I'd want from out back. Not the way I like doing business at all.

Good luck. Maybe it'll turn around someday, but I somehow doubt it. :/

yeah i've lived around here my whole live and the SA in saugus has really never been great for furniture (umm since maybe 7 years ago when i got my license and started driving there). it's always overpriced. i have much better luck with yard sales. the savers in danvers occasionally has good/cheap stuff, but it seems that it was better when it was in revere.

Cool chair. I've seen a bunch of employees at thrifts buy things before they are put on the floor.

Goodwill checks some things out on the internet. They also have a ebay like site. Even though they check some things out now, I have still bought items this year worth over 200.00 for a fraction of that.

yeah definitely. i'm a senior and i've spent 6 semesters at montserrat. i've also studied at umass boston, otis college of art & design, and mass art, but i love montserrat the best.
